Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
