A group of ten convicted of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has still to be made public.
A circulating unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
